Salib Kasih Tarutung is one of the famous spiritual tourist destinations in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, which has its main attraction as a center of Christian spirituality. This monument was built to commemorate the German missionary, Dr. Ingwer Ludwig Nommensen, who played an important role in the spread of Christianity in the region. Apart from being a place of worship, the Salib Kasih also offers a beautiful natural panorama from the peak of DolokSiatas Barita, as well as a strong religious atmosphere, making it a favorite place for spiritual pilgrimage, meditation and contemplation. Research using qualitative methods with a descriptive approach to data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews and documentation studies. This article explores the role of tourism communication, supporting factors, and the effects of this major event on the tourism industry. Using qualitative research methods and secondary data analysis, it is found that effective tourism communication, including promotions through social media and collaboration influencers, can attract visitors' attention. Collaboration among the government, hospitality industry players, and travel agents is also crucial for disseminating accurate information regarding available facilities and tour packages. The findings indicate that PON XXI has the potential to increase both visitor numbers and hotel occupancy during and after the event. Furthermore, hotel managers in Medan are advised to develop sustainable communication strategies to promote the city as an attractive tourist destination, thereby providing long-term positive impacts on regional tourism. This study aims to analyze the role of religious tourism in building environmental awareness in Tangkahan, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province. The research adopts a qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews.</em></p> <p><em>The findings reveal that religious tourism in Tangkahan has successfully raised higher awareness among tourists and local communities regarding environmental issues. Activities such as waste management, flora and fauna conservation, and environmental education integrated into religious tourism programs have effectively increased community participation in preserving the environment. Furthermore, the study found that the sustainable utilization of natural resources in religious tourism activities not only provides economic benefits to the community but also protects the environment.</em></p> <p><em>The conclusion of this research suggests that religious tourism in Tangkahan can serve as an effective means of fostering environmental awareness and could be used as a model for other regions to develop environmentally friendly tourism. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis teori 4A (<em>attraction, accessibility, amenity and ancillary</em>). Atraksi yang ada di Desa Pematang Johar ialah Aktivitas panen padi, aktivitas membatik sawah, menikmati makanan dan minuman di pondok-pondok yang ada di tengah-tengah persawahan, Aksesibilitas yang sudah cukup memadai, amenitas yaitu fasilitas kesehatan, fasilitas keamanan, fasilitas ibadah yang sudah ada dan baik, serta ancillary atau layanan tambahan melalui adanya POKDARWIS (Kelompok Sadar Wisata) dan BUMDes yang membantu dalam pengembangan desa pematang johar. Strategi yang ditempuh ialah dengan diterapkan strategi intensif yaitu melalui penetrasi pasar, pengembangan pasar dan pengembangan produk. Desa ini memiliki potensi sebagai destinasi wisata dengan daya tarik kuliner tradisional yang merepresentasikan budaya lokal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Informan dalam penelitian ini meliputi kepala desa, anggota Pokdarwis, pelaku usaha jajanan tradisional, dan pengunjung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa promosi lisan (<em>word of mouth</em>) dan event lokal masih menjadi strategi pemasaran utama, meskipun terbatas dalam menjangkau pasar yang lebih luas. Penggunaan media sosial mulai dimanfaatkan oleh beberapa pelaku usaha dan Pokdarwis, namun penerapannya belum optimal karena keterbatasan keterampilan digital. Respon positif wisatawan terhadap jajanan tradisional yang unik dan autentik mengindikasikan potensi pengembangan lebih lanjut, terutama dengan inovasi pada kemasan dan cita rasa untuk menarik minat generasi muda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis dokumen untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahasa asing, khususnya bahasa Inggris, dalam promosi kuliner lokal memberikan dampak positif, terutama dalam menarik wisatawan mancanegara dan meningkatkan interaksi melalui platform digital seperti media sosial dan situs web. Pelaku usaha yang menggunakan bahasa asing pada menu, deskripsi produk, dan media promosi mengalami peningkatan jumlah wisatawan asing serta penjualan. Namun, kendala utama yang ditemukan adalah keterbatasan keterampilan bahasa asing di kalangan pelaku usaha, yang terkadang menimbulkan kesalahpahaman dalam komunikasi langsung dengan wisatawan asing. Selain itu, pelaku usaha menyadari pentingnya menjaga keseimbangan antara penggunaan bahasa asing dan identitas budaya lokal. Salah satu strategi yang efektif adalah menggabungkan istilah kuliner lokal dengan deskripsi dalam bahasa asing untuk mempertahankan keunikan budaya Karo. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan adanya pelatihan bahasa asing bagi pelaku usaha kuliner, yang tidak hanya berfokus pada keterampilan bahasa, tetapi juga bagaimana mempromosikan produk tanpa kehilangan nilai budaya lokal. Sustainable preservation of cultural heritage is&nbsp; crucial&nbsp; due&nbsp; to&nbsp; its&nbsp; significant&nbsp; benefits&nbsp; for&nbsp; the&nbsp; local community.&nbsp; Before the government's development, Kesawan appeared rundown with many&nbsp; abandoned,&nbsp; vandalized buildings and&nbsp; homeless&nbsp; people&nbsp; occupying&nbsp; them.&nbsp; Qualitative research gathered information through observation, literature study, and interviews with residents, government officials, heritage experts, and&nbsp; site&nbsp; managers.&nbsp; The&nbsp; study&nbsp; found&nbsp; that&nbsp; the&nbsp; Medan&nbsp; city government&nbsp; and&nbsp; related&nbsp; departments&nbsp; did&nbsp; not&nbsp; comprehensively supervise&nbsp; heritage&nbsp; preservation.&nbsp; The&nbsp; Irritation&nbsp; Index&nbsp; (Irridex) theory&nbsp; revealed&nbsp; that&nbsp; the&nbsp; community&nbsp; felt&nbsp; euphoria,&nbsp; showing&nbsp; they&nbsp; were&nbsp; pleased&nbsp; with tourists. In recent years, urban areas have placed an emphasis on innovation to encourage creativity and contribute to the formation of creative spaces. In Indonesia, creative space is increasingly expanding and developing, triggered by social media. This phenomenon attracts people to visit and carry out various creative activities, so that North Sumatra, which has various cultures and ethnicities, feels the need to provide a forum for what has become known as North Sumatra Fashion Week and in 2023, North Sumatra Fashion Week will also be held in November. With this platform, the creative attractiveness of city areas in culture can be better known so that city tourism does not only focus on the physical attractiveness of the city. This research aims to contribute to the available literature by further examining how the creative activities created can form creative spaces in the city of Medan, and what creative activities can be developed as tourist attractions. A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this research, data collection using observation, interviews and literature study. The findings show that various creative activities created in the city of Medan are interpreted collectively by visitors, thus forming a creative space and potentially becoming a tourist attraction in the Medan area.
